Dakota Woolstenhulme “I find it funny because it’s a meme. A horrible idea I mean there’s already someone that has died. so I find it kinda stupid.”

Heavy social media users no doubt know all about these summer fiascos, but in case you actually spent time outdoors or talking to people face to face this summer or working a job, we will fill you in on what you missed.

Aleigha Hansen (11), a Snapchat enthusiast who spends about 7 hours a day on social media, said the biggest trend she saw this summer was VSCO girls, but her least favorite trend was Area 51. “It clogged up my feed,” she said.

The Area 51 raid idea started in July of 2019 when a man named Matty Roberts claimed to be behind the “Storm Area 51: They can’t stop us all.” It started as a facebook event. The event was scheduled to be on Sept. 20, 2019, and 1.6 million people quickly marked that they were “going” and 1.2 million were “interested in going.” As of today, almost 2.1 million people are “going” and over 1.5 million people are “interested.” There is a festival called “Alienstock” on September 20-22, 2019, in a city just outside of the Area 51 base. Post Malone is rumored to be performing at the so called “Alienstock” along with other singers.

Chris Wold (11), who says that he spends about 5 hours a day on social media, primarily on Youtube or Snapchat, said that while he really enjoys these apps, the VSCO girl trend was his least favorite trend this summer.

What is it, you might ask? Let’s see if we can sum it up: Hydroflask? Check. Scrunchies? Check. Birkenstocks and crocs? Check, check. Turtle saving straw? Check. Oversized shirt? Check. Tik tok? Check. Sksksksk? Check. Seashell necklace? Check. And I oop? Check. If you checked yes to any of these, you could be considered to be a VSCO girl in the eyes of your friends and peers, which since so many people have reported this trend as being annoying, that’s not exactly a compliment. According to the urban dictionary, a VSCO girl is “the tumblr girl of 2019.” The urban dictionary also says a VSCO girl is the most basic girl you will meet.

If you thought that you were finally free from VSCO girl now that summer is over, you are wrong. VSCO girl invaded tik tok with people making videos making fun of the stereotypical VSCO girls. Walk a mile in these louboutins.

Last but not least, if you didn’t know, Snapchat updated their logo so that the ghost on the front had a bold black outline that surprisingly got a lot of backlash with people saying “it made them uncomfortable.” You wouldn’t think that a logo change is super important in the life of social media, but apparently it is.
