As of October 5th, 2022, Kendrick Lamar officially takes a sweep of the BET Hip Hop Awards, taking home six BET Awards including artist of the year and album of the year for his newest project, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The awards ceremony, originally taped on Friday, September 30th at the Cobb Energy Centre in Atlanta, made its public premiere on Tuesday, October 4th.

Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, Kendrick’s 5th studio album, would enter the Billboard Top 200 in May, going number one upon release. The album would consist of 18 songs, earning him lyricist of the year and making it Lamar’s eighth time winning this award. This is far more times than the award has been won by anyone else in BET history. He would also take home awards for best live performer, video director of the year (Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free, and best hip hop video (Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar).

Kendrick’s domination over the BET Hip Hop awards would top his BET ceremonies of past years. What some would call his ‘comeback album’ after spending five years without releasing any albums, his performances, videos, and lyrics on Mr Morale & The Big Steppers have put him at the top this year.
