Skyline Swims Away With A First Place

Girls take first, Boys take third.

Our Skyline swim team dove into the pool, kicked and pulled with all of their might, and rose to the top at the swim meet Saturday, Sept.  21, 2019. Skyline won first overall with a score of 309 points, winning by 2 points! Girls got 1st with a score of 196, winning by about 30 points, and the boys scored 3rd.

Friday we went and interviewed a few members of the swim team.

Daria Hathway(9) started swimming with her cousins. She practices every day but Friday, and Sunday. She prepares herself by cheering on her team and having team discussions. She enjoys swimming because it helps her stay fit and she enjoys the people on the team.

Kassidy Poole(10) has been swimming her whole life and started taking swimming lessons. She also practices every day but Friday and Sunday. She prepares herself by meeting with the swim team and listening to music to “get out of her head.” Her favorite event is free style and her goal this year is to make it to state.

Gavin Dustin(9) has been swimming since he was 6 years old. His mother was a competitive swimmer. He practices everyday except Sunday. He prepares himself by strategizing what he is going to do. His favorite event is 500 free and 200 free. His long term goals are to go to the Naval Academy.

Swim captain Jeremy Malmo (12) believes swimming is a very individual sport. “There’s a lot of team spirit to cheer everyone on, but at the end, the swimmer is the only one that can make sure they go their fastest. I try my hardest so I can win, with the team as well.”
