An escaped inmate and his alleged accomplice were both arrested in Twin Falls on Thursday afternoon. Investigators are looking into whether or not they killed 2 people while on the run. The suspect’s names are Skylar Meade and Nicholus Umphenour. Skylar escaped from a medical center in Boise. Nicholus allegedly opened fire on some officers who were trying to take Skylar back to the center (Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center).
Before they got caught they allegedly killed two men and stole one of the victim’s cars. Skylar and Nicholus were on the run for 36 hours and about a seven-hour drive before they got caught and were put into custody. They were put into different units and their bail was set at 2 million dollars. They weren’t charged with the deaths of the two victims. One of the deaths was in Clearwater County and the other death was in Nez Perce County.
The victims were identified as James L. Mauney, 83. He was reported missing after not returning home from walking his dogs. The other was identified as Gerald Don Henderson, 72. Gerald was found dead outside of his cabin near Orofino, Idaho. Nicholus knew Henderson because Henderson had taken him in for about a month in his late teens. Police say Skylar and Nicholus stole Mauney’s minivan and used it until they entered Twin Falls.
Skylar, 31 will be serving 20 years at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in Kuna, south of Boise. He was charged with shooting a sheriff’s sergeant. Nicholus was released with the same lockup after serving time for theft and gun convictions. Turns out there was another person involved named Tonia Huber. According to what police say, Huber was driving the truck that Skylar was in when he got arrested. He was charged with harboring a fugitive, eluding police, and drug possession.
