How many people are starving in the world? When 2021 ended 193 million people were starving. As of 2021, there are 7.8 billion people in the world. 1 in 11 people are starving and out of .8 billion people in the world, most of them don’t have food and are starving. 

There are about 156,600 Idahoans that are starving as of 2021. Put that into a percentage, and it’s about 8.2% of the population in America. About 40,410 children in Idaho are experiencing starvation. In the United States, Mississippi has the most people who are starving. About 130,240 of those people are children. When compared that is 1 in 5 children who have been experiencing starvation.

More than 34 million people are starving in America. The thing that causes starvation the most is poverty. When people are in poverty, people can’t make enough money to provide for their families.  Another reason is lack of resources which means people don’t have time or money to eat food. The source World Vision.ca, says “Poverty is the principal cause of global hunger.” The word poverty means extremely poor, so food is the least of their worries when people are in poverty, leading to starvation.

Some people may be asking how we can reduce the amount of starvation happening in Idaho which means we need farming. We need local agriculture. That means we need to give all of the farmers more accessibility to local markets to get supplies to grow their crops. People who consume the farmers’ crops need to build a better connection with them so that they can have a better knowledge of what they are eating and have more appreciation for the food we have.
