The Developing Daybell Case

The+Developing+Daybell+Case

The Daybell case is a very complicated story which includes Lori’s children, Tylee Ryan and  Joshua “JJ” Vallow, Lori’s then-husband Charles Vallow; and Chad’s then-wife Tammy Daybell who were all victims of this tragedy. This case started on September 9th, 2019, and is still present today with a trial set to begin for both Lori and Chad in January 2023. Chad and Lori Daybell are both suspected of killing JJ and Tylee.

This whole case got deeper in June of 2020 when they finally found JJ and Tylee, sadly not alive. Around 7:00 a.m. on June 9th, 2020 police served another search warrant on Chad’s home and within hours they found the remains of JJ and Tylee in the backyard. That same day, Chad was taken into custody. On July 2nd prosecutors dismissed two felony counts of desertion and nonsupport of both JJ and Tylee from Lori’s file, and on July 15th she pleads not guilty to resisting or obstructing officers, criminal solicitation to commit a crime, and contempt of court. On August 3rd and 4th, the preliminary hearing for Chad Daybell was held in Fremont County, the judge ruled that the prosecution had enough probable cause to advance the case to District Court. Though Lori waived her preliminary hearing on August 10 and 11, it moved straight to District Court. Chad appeared in district court and pleaded not guilty to the felony charges on August 21st. His lawyer, during all of this, asked the judge to dismiss the case altogether, which was ultimately denied. Rob Wood filed a motion on September 1st to combine the cases for Chad and Lori saying it would be more efficient. On September 10th Lori pleaded not guilty to the two felony charges she received. Later that day, East Idaho News released audio of Lori saying that she was going to murder her 3rd husband while in a meeting in October of 2018.

On May 24 2021 a grand jury indicted Chad and Lori on several new felony charges, including first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. On June 8th Lori Vallow Daybell was committed to the Idaho Department of Health and labeled as ‘not fit for trial.’On June 9th Chad pleaded not guilty to all accounts handed down to him by the grand jury. On June 24th a grand jury in Arizona indicated Lori Vallow Daybell for conspiracy to commit murder in the death of her fourth husband. On August 5th prosecutors announced that they will seek the death penalty for Chad Daybell. By August 30th Lori was still incompetent to stand trial and prosecutors asked if Lori should be forced to take medications because the Department of Health suggested she should. On October 5th the judge announced that the trial was to be moved to Ada County, and the supreme court agreed.

In March of 2022, Arizona prosecutors announced that they will not file conspiracy to commit murder charges against Chad Daybell in the case of the drive-by shooting that involved Brandon Boudreaux. On April 11th Judge Boyce issued a written order that Lori was competent to stand trial and was fit to proceed. Lori Daybell was arraigned on April 19th but stayed silent, her attorney asks to enter a not guilty plea on her behalf.

This is where this crazy story of distrust and betrayal ends for now. There are many more hearings supposed to happen in January of 2023 and hopefully, that will be the last year of this crazy trial to prove who is innocent and who is guilty. Keep JJ, Tylee, Tammy, and the rest of the family in prayers, they need it the most at this time.
