George Alexander Trebek was born on July 22, 1940 in Greater Sudbury, Canada. Trebek’s parents were Lucille Lagacé and George Edward Trebek, and had a younger sister named Barbara Trebek. His mother was a French-Canadian woman with some First Nations ancestry, and his father was Ukrainian immigrant who worked as chef at a local hotel. Trebek went to Sundbury High School, now named Sundbury Secondary High School, and graduated in 1957. He then went to University of Ottawa and got a degree in philosophy in 1961. Although he ditched philosophy and pursued a career in journalism. Trebek then married his first wife, Elaine Callei, on September 25, 1974. They remained married for 7 year but got divorced in 1981. He then married his second wife, Jean Currivan, on April 30, 1990 and had two children, Emily and Matthew, he also had adopted his ex-wife’s daughter named Nicky. Matthew is a 30 year old Manhattan restaurateur and Emily is a 27 year old Los Angele realtor. 

Trebek’s first job was a fill-in reporter and newscaster with Canadian Broadcasting corporation, CBC T.V. Then he decided that he wants to host game shows. One of his first times hosting a show was a Canadian quiz show Reach for the Top. Another show he hosted was a Canadian game show named Jackpot. It wasn’t till 1984 when Alex Trebek started hosting Jeopardy. Alex Trebek Was best known for hosting this game show. This was a well known show. This show was even on the comedy show Saturday Night Live as a parody where Will Ferrel is the host. Trebek hosted this show for 37 seasons. Sadly Trebek got diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March 2019. He went with several rounds of chemotherapy and even beat the one-year survival rate for stage 4 pancreatic cancer patients. Alex Trebek died on November 8, 2020 at his home in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 80 after more than 18 months fighting pancreatic Cancer.
