Summer break is approaching very quickly for Skyline High School students. Many students have summer plans, whether for a vacation, visiting someone, or just spending time with family or friends. There are even many local activities to do in Idaho Falls, including outdoor activities, educational activities, and overall fun activities.
Some outdoor activities would include camping and fishing. A great place to camp would be Heise Hot Springs. While at Heise you could go swimming, golfing, ziplining, and even eat from their pizza place. For more information about camping at Heise Hot Springs, please visit https://www.heisehotsprings.net/heise-campgrounds. Fishing is another great way to have fun this summer. On June 8, 2024, there will be a free fishing day, meaning no license is required! Though the fishing is free, all other fishing rules are still in play. Please check https://idfg.idaho.gov/fish/free-fishing-day for more information. Don’t forget to have fun fishing.
Though outdoor activities are fun, some people aren’t huge nature lovers. For those who don’t enjoy camping nor fishing, there are always educational opportunities such as the Museum, the Aquarium, and the Zoo. The museum is a great way to learn something new. The current exhibit is “Under the Canopy” which is an exhibit about South and Central American wildlife. The next exhibit will be “Above and Beyond” which will be an exhibit about space science and engineering. The exhibit will open on June 1, 2024. Visit https://museumofidaho.org/ for more! The Aquarium is a great place to see some exotic exhibits of sea life. A single day admission costs about $12 per adult (age 13+). The tokens cost $3 each. Tokens are little coins that you can use to have an interactive experience with some of the exhibits, such as feeding the bird, feeding the lizards, feeding the porcupine, ect. To learn more about the East Idaho Aquarium, visit https://eastidahoaquarium.com/. The Zoo has various species of animals including species from Asia, Africa, Australia, North America, and South America. It is the perfect place to see unique animals that you would not otherwise be able to see. See more at https://www.idahofallsidaho.gov/1736/Zoo.
Though educational activities are great, some people just want to have overall fun. A great place to just have fun is the Idaho Falls Family Fun Center. Though the name is Idaho Falls Family Fun Center don’t be fooled! It is actually a rage room where you go in and pay a certain amount of money to be destructive and break stuff. Though you are being destructive, it is very, very fun! Learn more at https://iffamilyfun.com/.
Many students also have some great summer plans of their own. Ridge Toleman plans on working, mountain biking, and playing video games. Ridge works at Pretzelmaker at the Grand Teton Mall. He plays on his Xbox and Oculus, games such as Gorilla tag, Fortite, and Forza. He is part of the “Idaho Falls Mountain Biking” team and he says he plans to ride wherever he can go. Overall, this can be a great summer for everyone no matter what your plans are!
