Mr. Martin, more often known as Marco, let us in and answered questions about his life, inspiration, teaching, and coaching career.
Before Marco started teaching he was a White water rafting and a Fly Fishing guide. A guide acts like a teacher, in the sense that you participate in teaching different topics and observe people as they learn.
When asked about who inspired him to become a health teacher, he answered with, ¨My mom and Aunts.¨ Family is so important when considering life paths and career paths. Having this inspiration is crucial in making the right decision.
When asked about his educating career, Marco responded with,
¨ I have been a teacher for 35 years. I taught for 5 years at the old Clair E. Gale Jr. High School, and now 30 years at Skyline.¨
When students around Skyline speak about Marco they often mention his teaching style.
¨He gives us lots of homework time.¨ Says Sophomore Caleb Johnson
Bree Elton, also a Skyline Sophomore answered with, ¨We can use technology on assignments, and notes from class for quizzes and tests.¨
When Marco was asked about his differing teaching style here at SHS he stayed very humble.
¨It doesn’t, there are amazing teachers here at Skyline HS. I don’t come close.¨
It is known to all students and staff that Marco is a favored and beloved teacher. He cares about all of his students and fellow teachers and speaks about all his fellow staff members with respect and kindness.
When asked about his favorite part of teaching he simply stated,
¨My students¨.
He also shows that he cares about his students by going to games and events to support the various students involved. Along with these admirable traits, Marco is a coach here at SHS. He coaches Football and Boys Basketball and has had much success in both sports, with both having made it to state multiple times.
When asked, what he enjoys doing after school when he is not teaching or coaching, he answered,
¨I enjoy Golfing, Gardening, and Fishing.¨
Marco Martin will continue to be an important and beloved member of the Skyline community. We are thankful for his continued support and inspiration throughout the years.
