Ever since August 15, 2005, when Israel declared itself out of the Gaza Strip, Hamas has had issues with this new nation. Israel is now attempting to fortify their identity as a completely independent country. On October 7, 2023, Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist faction, released at least 3,000 rockets on Israel killing lots of people. After that, Israel declared war on Hamas and attacked the Gaza Strip. Since October 7, 2023, there have been more than 1,200 dead Israelis,  at least 155 others being held captive and two American hostages released on October 20, 2023. More than 2,670 Palestinians have died and the number of casualties seems to not be slowing down. Since people keep getting killed/injured the Israeli military has told more than one million Gaza residents to leave their homes

Hamas is an acronym for Harakat (motion or moving) al-Muqawama al-Islamiya. Hamas formed in 1987 during the first Palestine uprising to resist Israel. Israel was protecting Gaza so they didn’t have as much protection for their country. In 2005 the Israelis decided to leave because they wanted to improve Israelis protection and security. They then blockaded the Gaza Strip and started to focus on only Israel. Hamas and the Palestinians took great offense and teamed up with Iran to take out the Israelis. 

October 17,  2023, Ahli Arab Hospital goes up in flames. Nearly 500 people died in the bombing against Hamas and they believe another 1,200 people are buried under the rubble. On the night of the tragedy, there were said to be 350 people rushed in ambulances. They were then laid on the ground with blood everywhere and they were screaming from pain. Joe Biden talked with Israel and tried to discourage them from reoccupying Gaza before the attack. After the attack, President Biden said, ¨I am outraged and deeply saddened by the explosion at the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, and the terrible loss of life that resulted.¨ Many say they agree with him and most people in the U.S. are in despair about the tragedy in Gaza.
