Morrison’s Menu: Bowling Ally Food
This month I decided to plan a fun dinner date and I had to decide where we were going to go to get something to eat. My date and I went to Skyline Lanes and were able to play a couple games of bowling. I had heard good reviews about the food there so I figured I would kill two birds with one stone and get the food while on my date. I decided that I would make a slight hint that I was ordering with the intent of reviewing the food and asked what the bestseller was. Almost instantly the reply was, “That would be the Skyline Burger.” I took a look at the description which read, “Two perfectly seasoned patties with Sweet and Tangy BBQ sauce, American Cheese, Bacon, Two Onion Rings, Lettuce, Fresh Tomato, and Pickle. A burger so good we put our name on it!” This was more than enough to get me excited to try this burger, but then I saw the $10.75 price tag and was curious if the burger would hold up to the price, so I ordered it and played a game to kill the time and it only took about 20-25 minutes.
I was super excited and the burger was massive. I could tell this from across the room, and as the burgers made it to our table, they looked picture perfect. With fries and Code Red to wash it down I knew it was going to be good. And boy was I right, the patties were indeed seasoned with simple salt and pepper which I honestly believe is all you really need for seasoning a good burger (let the meat and sauce do all the hard work!) The veggies were all fresh and delicious, the tomatoes were perfect and I say this because if there is one thing I hate is when you pick up a burger and it is soaked in tomato juice or smothered in lettuce which, thankfully, wasn’t the case here. However I did order mine without pickle and it did come with pickle, but it took me half the burger and one falling out the side to ever realize they were on there. The bacon was cooked perfectly, slightly crispy and slightly chewy. The onion rings were nice and hot and had a thick buttery batter and sweet onions on the inside that complimented the BBQ sauce well, and the BBQ sauce wasn’t anything special. In fact, it tasted to me almost like the kind you would find at a fast food place, sweet and tangy, which I’m not saying is a bad thing, it was good sauce! Simple, basic and the kind you know and love.
Now when it was all said and done I had barely finished it all, it was a good burger and I could see why it was so popular. Now for the honest critique; the burger itself was amazing and filling, the only negative thing that I can pull from it is that I ordered mine without pickle and it came with pickle. Even then this is a service problem (which isn’t even that big of a deal accidents happen and the lady taking and cooking our order was super nice the whole time) and I didn’t even taste them so I’m just mentioning it but won’t let it affect the review.
Now the “half pound” of fries that came with it is a different story, they were basic frozen fries that were surprisingly pretty good. Now the issue I find with them is
- There definitely isn’t a “half pound” of fries and if the burger didn’t fill me up I would have been rather disappointed as there really weren’t that many fries.
And B. (yes I did just put B instead of 2, it my thing, deal with it) There just wasn’t enough fry sauce, now I know that I could have just asked for more but this kinda ties in with point 1- if you are advertising so many fries then why only give one sauce for all the fries? And why not make it a point to ask the customer if they want more than one?
And finally for the review; the whole experience was amazing and I had a wonderful time with my date. The staff was super nice and helpful as they always are and the food was really good, now my overall rating that I would say is a 8.5/10 forks.
The service and staff were super nice and helpful, 11/10.
The burger was amazing and I highly recommend it, 10/10
The drink selection and seating was pretty good, 10/10
The french fries tasted great, but too few and not enough sauce even for this small amount, 6/10
For my date and I to share a pitcher of soda and for two orders of the Skyline burger the total came out to just under $30 for some big burgers, a lot of soda and a lot of fun. I would highly recommend this as a casual date night for anyone looking to have a fun time with their romantic interest or even with friends. I hope to see you there!
