Morrison’s Menu: My Own Creation
As I sat at work it occurred to me, I needed to come up with a good healthy alternative. I work at a fast food chain, a specific one that I won’t name but the mascot involves a King. The thing is that since I work there I have had just about every single thing on the menu and It all has become ‘meh’ tasting to me, I don’t like it at all or simply that it just isn’t that healthy to eat repeatedly 5-6 times a week. So then I started to think about the idea of a healthy option and as soon as I came up with what I think is the perfect idea, I set off to make it real.
When I was a kid back in the late 2000’s my favorite thing to get from McDonalds was the McWrap, but it was different from what most of you may remember. The McWrap from my youth was a plain flour tortilla packed with lettuce, shredded cheese, tomato, your choice of grilled or crispy chicken and different kinds of sauces. I would always get mine without tomato and with a crispy chicken smothered in honey mustard. In fact I used to eat these so much that I have now become addicted to McDonald’s honey mustard, literally.
However in 2006 McDonald’s scrapped the snack wraps and rebranded their McWraps as a healthy food option, the new wraps changed and now had cucumber and “spring greens” and were available in only three flavors; ranch, sweet chili and creamy garlic. And I tried to keep up with them and eat the new McWraps but honestly it was never the same after that and the McWrap was completely scrapped and is now no more.
So now that I have given you some backstory let’s get to the good part, I am now at work and start to work to make my own McWrap, I frantically search the kitchen and find the tortillas that we use for breakfast and use that as my base, I load it up with the lettuce that we have for the burgers and get a fresh crispy chicken patty and chop it up into bite sized pieces, I get some shredded cheese and top it on. Now for the tricky part, the honey mustard.
As I grab my works honey mustard and open it I sit in awe and look at it, it is nothing like McDonald’s…shocker, but what I mean by that is that it occurred to me that I had never tried it before up until then. So I tried it, and honestly it wasn’t bad, for chicken nuggets but this was the go to snack of my childhood we are talking about here! So as I sat and let the taste linger I decided ‘Absolutely no substitutes!’
Now with little time remaining for my lunch break I frantically ran out of the back door and over to McDonald’s, then I remembered that the lobby was closed and that the only way I could get it was by either pounding on the gate and hopping someone was nice enough to give it to me or go to the drive through window and see if my friend could help with my hunger, and with luck my friend was able to get me a few sauce packs.
I made it back to work, was able to get the sauce onto the still hot chicken and perfectly melted cheese, all piled on a bed of nice crispy lettuce and as I began to tightly wrap the tortilla I couldn’t help but smile. The wrap was as big as my forearm and looked just right. As I sank my teeth in I began to reminisce and think back to my happy childhood and enjoyed my new creation, now I am sorry dear readers but I doubt you will be able to order this one easily and may require to do some home cooking or use some connections to have this secret item made. But I will say that it is worth it if you are willing to try and get this, I rate it 100 forks out of 10. And remember, if you have any food suggestions make sure to leave a comment or email me at [email protected] and remember, feed your cravings!
