A busy mother, grandmother, and business owner, Kelle Martin has been teaching in District 91 since 1986, but this year she is retiring.

Martin teaches AP Language and Composition and ESL here at Skyline, although she has taught a number of other classes over the years as well, in addition to serving for many years as the English Department Head and as a rep for the IFEA.

As a teacher, Martin has had a lasting impact on her students. One of her AP Lang students, Mario Estrada (11) said, “She’s definitely given English class a different environment that’s both more challenging and more stimulating than I’d really gotten used to. It’s given me a higher English standard.” Many others attest to the high quality of feedback that they receive on their writing that really helps them to improve.

Martin loves her students and the friends she has made throughout the years, but she is excited to have no more papers and essays to grade. Elizabeth Sevilla, who works closely with Martin and the ELL students, is very sad to see her go. “Nobody can replace Mrs. Martin! She has so much elegance and grace,” she said.
